Being seen, loved, and supported
In 2016, I got a call from a nurse who told me that my mom had just suffered a stroke. I pulled over my car, sobbed, and reached out to friends and family to share the news. I knew little about strokes, but I knew our lives had forever changed. The days and months that followed included hours in hospital rooms, daily visits to a rehabilitation center, and trying to piece together my mom’s life and new normal. During this challenging time, a tremendous amount of love and support surrounded me. I found myself overwhelmed by the remarkable ways loved ones showed up for me.
Just as my family and I were getting our bearings, my mom was diagnosed with an aggressive lung cancer that would take her life two short months later. My entire universe shifted when my mom died on December 13, 2017; I felt lost and heartbroken. Given the year I had just experienced, I was sure my friends and family had been giving all they could to support me, and I suspected their kindness was almost depleted. I could not have been more wrong; their love was limitless and they were the light that warmed my heart as I navigated the unimaginable grief.
Each act was meaningful, and some fueled my drive to make it through the day. It was beautiful to see how each person found a unique way to love me a little louder and create a safe place for me to fall apart.
Loss is hard, and grief has taught me how sorrow and joy can live in the same place. Thanks to my loved ones, I know the magic of kind words, a generous act, or a simple text with a heart emoji. I also know how uncomfortable loss can be, and that not everyone knew what to do when my mom died. I was beyond moved by those who made an effort to demonstrate their love; and I extend grace to those who I know wanted to be there for me, but feared they didn’t know what might help.
I created Kindness Concierge to offer support and guidance to those who feel overwhelmed, afraid to do the wrong thing, or stuck when seeking ways to support someone who is grieving. I know firsthand that the gift is showing up, and I will help you find meaningful ways to do just that! Your kindness helps an important person in your life feel seen, loved, and supported and shows you care.

“The thanks really goes to you! I moved over the summer, and now I have friends going through some tough times. It is so hard not to be right there for them. I was so thankful to be able to go to your website and find something that would send some love to one of them. It is so wonderful to have this resource.”
